Wadi Rum

“The desert, when the sun comes up…I couldn’t tell where heaven stopped and the Earth began.”
― Tom Hanks

After crossing the border from Israel into Jordan, my friend, Larry, his niece, Rebecca, and I went to the place where we would meet our guide for a three-hour tour of Wadi Rum.  Wadi Rum is

a protected area located in Aqaba, Jordan.  Wadi Rum has sandstone mountains, desert landscapes, and natural arches.

We enjoyed the tour on the back of a truck.  The ride on the cushioned seating was a comfortable way to travel.

At one point, our guide stopped at a gift shop tent located in the middle of the desert.

The landscape and details of Wadi Rum were fascinating.

There were even opportunities to have a ride on a camel in Wadi Rum.

Larry and Rebecca enjoyed a walk on top of the arch.

Many movies have been filmed at Wadi Rum to feature this gorgeous landscape.  The Martian, Mission to Mars, and Dune are just a few of the movies that have been filmed in Wadi Rum.

I was absolutely thrilled to see camels while in the protected area.

I will forever be thankful for the opportunity to explore this incredible landscape with my friends and our guide.  It was an amazing and intriguing place to visit.  I would never tire of exploring such a fascinating landscape.
