One in a Million

It just doesn’t feel like summer until I spend time in a sunflower field.  Friday was my first trip to spend time in the fields.

I talked a great friend and fellow photographer into meeting me at Draper Wildlife Management Area, located in McConnells, South Carolina before sunrise to photograph the sunflowers.

Although there was nothing spectacular about the sunrise as it was well hidden behind the clouds, the early morning light did not disappoint.

Early on in my visit to the fields,  I focused on a sunflower unlike any of the others.  It was a double sunflower, back to back, on the same plant.

I ended up spending most of the almost three hours in the field focusing on this plant.

I began by experimenting with different apertures and compositions.

From there, I used in camera multiple exposure to create some images.

Before we left, the sun was backlighting the flowers.

I spent most of my almost three hours at the sunflower field focusing on this one subject.  I took more than two hundred shots of this amazing subject.

I am so thankful for great friends, summer sunflowers, and the gift of time to explore them.
