“Some people feel the rain. Others just get wet.”
―
Each June I like to make my way to Roan Mountain when the rhododendrons are blooming. This past weekend, I had something to pick up in Boone. Since Roan mountain is in the area, Randy and I decided to make a quick trip to Roan Mountain.
We knew that rain was in the forecast. Some things, like blooming rhododendrons,
are wonderful to photograph in the rain. The garden areas at Roan Mountain and the forest leading up to Round Bald can take on a mystical quality when enveloped in fog or light rain.
We began our exploration in the garden area.
After leaving the garden area, Randy, Maui, and I hiked up to Round Bald. As soon as we made our way to the top, the rain came down full force. We were absolutely drenched by the time we made it back to the parking lot at Carver’s Gap. Luckily, we have had enough of these adventures to know to bring a change of clothing.
I am not sure how the rhododendrons held up through the heavy rains that happened this week. I hope to make it there one more time during this year’s bloom. If you haven’t yet experienced this magical place, put it on your to-do list.
