Week Sixteen Composite: Road Trip

“Photoshop and Lightroom help me transform my photos into what my heart felt, but my camera couldn’t quite capture!”
― Marius Vieth

One of my favorite things to do during the weekend when the weather is just right is to take a road trip.  This past weekend the weather was exceptional and I felt a pull to go exploring.

Sometime after noon Saturday, Randy, Maui and I headed to our chosen

destination for the day’s adventure.  We were exploring some areas of interest near Greenville, SC.

As we navigated the winding roads, Maui thoroughly enjoyed the fresh air.  As she was enjoying the air, I was enjoying the sight of her in the rearview mirror.  The trees were reflecting in my passenger window.  It was such a beautiful sight, I took many frames of what I was seeing and experiencing as Randy drove.

When I got home, I was curious to see whether or not I was able to capture what I saw.  The many frames all seemed to fall short of the vivid memory.  Some of the frames told a part of the story, but not the story in its entirety.

For many years, I knew that Photoshop™ held lots of magical answers to questions that I had.  I started chipping away at learning the program bit by bit.  The more I learned, the more I was able to create.  Knowledge of the capabilities of each tool led me to think about what could be possible.

So, rather than being disappointed that what I saw and what I captured were not the same, I began building what I saw using Photoshop™.

Background

In this first image, I liked the background, but did not like that Maui’s head was just partially out of the window.  Maui’s head also was not in sharp focus.

Car Image

I wanted to include the red car from this image, but did not like the other parts of the image.

Maui’s Head

I loved the way Maui’s head was all the way out of the car in this image.

So, using all three images, I spent some time working with the images in Photoshop™, and created what I remembered experiencing on that wonderful spring day.

There are so many magical things that you can create using post-processing tools that are available.

If you would like to learn more about using post-processing tools to create, I hope will consider joining Les Saucier and me in September.  We will be having a two-day workshop that will help you learn to use post-processing tools to transform your photographs into what you imagine them to be.  For more information about this workshop and to register, please click here.
