“I shall take the heart. For brains do not make one happy, and happiness is the best thing in the world.”
― L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
In September, my husband, Randy, and I traveled to Beech Mountain, North Carolina, to visit the Land of Oz. We were there for an annual event, called
I was not sure what to expect from the event, but knew I wanted to see it.
Once we arrived, we rode on a shuttle to the top of the mountain. Once there, we toured through the Land of Oz. Visitors traveled along the yellow brick road to meet the characters from the Wizard of Oz. When purchasing tickets, you were given a time to tour Oz. This kept the guests spread out throughout the day.
The friendlier characters were the first guests encountered along the yellow brick road. All guests were able to get pictures taken with each character if desired. The characters were spaced out in their own locations along the yellow brick road.
The characters were all very friendly and eager to take pictures with guests.
Dorothy even made an appearance.
The darker side of Oz was also represented. The witch was not as excited to be photographed as some of the other characters.
As we traveled through the Land of Oz, we saw many scenes from the movie.
Many of the guests dressed up as characters from Oz themselves.
Autumn at Oz was a wonderful event for children and for those who are great fans of the Characters of the Wizard of Oz.
If you have plans to be in North Carolina next fall, be sure to check out Autumn at Oz in Beech Mountain, North Carolina.

Thanks so much, Evan! Have a joyous Thanksgiving!
I heard about this event a couple of years ago and is on my bucket list. Great shots. I’m guessing the witch didn’t want her picture take because she is angry after someone dropped a house on her sister.
