Mammoth Hot Springs

“Somber Yellowstone Park and its colored hot springs, baby geysers, rainbows of bubbling mud – symbols of my passion.”
― Vladimir Nabokov, Lolita

This summer was my second opportunity to visit Yellowstone National Park.  The first time I traveled to Yellowstone was with my family two summers ago.  The second time I traveled there was with a group of great friends and fellow photographers this summer.  Both times visiting Yellowstone National Park, I was most captivated byMammoth Hot Springs.  You can read more about Mammoth Hot Springs here.

Mammoth Hot Springs just has an otherworldly quality to it that is difficult to describe in words, so I will let my images do the work.

This image was from my first visit to Mammoth Hot Springs.  This was my favorite image from my trip to Yellowstone two years ago.

During my second trip, this area was completely changed.  This was not even a place where I would stop to take a picture two years later.  One of the wonders of photography is the ability to capture the ever changing world.

My second visit allowed me to focus on the more intimate landscape features of Mammoth springs.  I loved capturing the terraces.

Plant life was sparse in Mammoth Hot Springs, but interesting to capture, nonetheless.

The hot springs is a very difficult environment for plant survival.

You can visit Mammoth Hot Springs on a series of boardwalks.  It is handy to know that parking areas will access different parts of the boardwalks.  What you get to see by hiking on the boardwalks, you can also access from different parking areas along the boardwalks.

If you get an opportunity to travel to Yellowstone National Park, be sure to make Mammoth Hot Springs one of your stops.  It is truly a remarkable place to visit!
