“When snow melts, what does it become?’
It becomes water, of course’
Wrong! It becomes spring!”
― Natsuki Takaya
This is the last week of winter. I was really disappointed that I did not get the opportunity to photograph a pretty snow event this winter. Before Sunday, we only had one winter weather event, earlier this season. It was not pretty precipitation. It kept me indoors for awhile, but did not amount to any great photography.
Sunday my area received a magical snow. I call it magical since it arrived while most were sleeping. I woke up to find snow falling and blanketing trees, bushes, and lawns. The only things that seemed not to be covered were the roads.
I set out first, on foot. I talked my husband, Randy, into taking a walk with me shortly after the scheduled time for sunrise. We didn’t make it up my street before I found a subject that drew my attention.
The blossoms on this tree just jumped out at me. Once I saw this tree, I knew I wanted to spend my time photographing the signs of spring that were being covered by this light blanket of snow.
Once we took a look at our neighborhood, we wanted to explore further. Since the roads remained clear of any ice or snow, we drove around looking for signs of spring covered with snow. We were delighted to find them almost everywhere we looked.
I knew I had to work quickly as the temperature was set to rise above freezing by late morning.. All in all, I only had a couple of hours to photograph Sunday morning before it all melted.
By noon, the snow had all melted. The world again looked like spring.
However, I hold those wintry images in my mind and heart. I also have a few on a memory card.
Until next winter…
