I recently returned from a visit to spend time with my brother, Paul, and his wife, Janet, in Florida. While there, we took a couple of day trips. Our first day trip was to Homosassa, Florida.
We made reservations prior to heading to Homosassa
for a boat ride that would take us past Monkey Island. The boat ride began at the Homosassa Riverside Resort. Passengers could choose just the boat ride or a boat ride and lunch combination. We chose to just do the boat ride as we had a small meal just before boarding.
You can read about the history of Monkey Island here.
The monkeys were very active. My skills as a wildlife photographer are lacking. I completely missed the monkey that swung out to great us. I need more practice photographing animals in motion. I did manage to get some still shots to share here.
The boat ride was fun and educational. Our boat captain even pointed out the best places to find the manatee.
After our boat ride, we were ready to eat again. My brother and Janet said that The Freezer was an excellent place to get seafood. We enjoyed a fantastic meal of crab legs, shrimp, and seafood dip. If you go to The Freezer, be sure to bring cash, as they do no accept other forms of payment. An ATM is conveniently located there.
Before leaving Homosassa, my brother spotted these traps located behind The Freezer.
What an enjoyable day we had riding in the boat, enjoying seafood, photographing, and enjoying each other’s company.
