Charleston, South Carolina became my favorite place on Earth when I had the opportunity to live and work there for five years immediately after college. Although I left Charleston, Charleston never left me. I return whenever I have the opportunity to do so.
Charleston is known for many things. Among them are beaches, marshes, historical buildings, churches, and…windows adorned with flowers and plants.
Many photographers spend time photographing the many windows of Charleston. I have countless images of colorful buildings with flower boxes that I have taken through the years in Charleston.
Here is an example of one of those beautiful windows.
For my past two trips to Charleston, I have enjoyed looking for a different type of image with Charleston windows. Here are some of my favorites from those recent trips.
I enjoyed looking for different types of Charleston window scenes. I imagine I will make this an ongoing series.

I really enjoy how your photography has changed – the window with the flowering plants is nice, however not very compelling or capable of drawing someone in – your more recent images have mystery and drama and curiosity going for them – they make me want to explore. They also remind me of a project I’m currently working on as I move into retirement – I’m seeking out liminal spaces to highlight transitional spaces much like my personal journey right now.
Pam, thank you for your very kind words. Although I always looked forward to retirement, it was one of the most difficult transitions in my life. I thought I needed to have life figured out immediately. The best advice I received was to take things slowly: I would find my way. Right now I am enjoying the challenges of creating my future.
