Image Seven of 52

Week Seven of my journey with 52 Frames gave me the challenge of creating an image for the theme: 

Intentional Color Palette.

I knew that in order to create an image for the week, I would need to do some research.  The first thing that I did was learn more about colors and their relationships using the color wheel.

I read and studied about analogous colors (next to each on the color wheel), complementary colors (opposite of each other on the color wheel), and triadic color schemes (colors that are evenly spaced from each other on the color wheel).

In my studies, I learned that the first circular diagram of colors was developed by Sir Isaac Newton in 1666.

In order to make my picture for the week’s challenge, I arranged some artificial flowers I found around a color wheel.  There were a couple that I did not have the right color for, so I created those colors in Photoshop.  Once I photographed the wheel, I put the wheel on duplicate layers.  I added a motion blur to one of the layers to add some more interest to the image.

After creating my color wheel, I continued to play with the image using Photoshop.

The week’s challenge led me to many learning opportunities as I read about the color wheel online, listened to a couple of classes on Creative Live about color, including Color Theory for Photographers by Blake Rudis, and watched some informative pieces on Netflix.  Of all that I studied, I was most fascinated by the movie,  The Creative Brain in which Neuroscientist, David Eagleman, explores creativity.

I will be much more intentional going forward with my use of color as I photograph nature and things in the non natural world.

I am thankful that participating in creating an image a week for 52 Frames is leading me to new learning, new exploration, and hopefully heightened creativity.
