Image Four of 52

“Filling a space in a beautiful way – that is what art means to me.”

-Georgia O’Keeffe

The challenge for week four with 52 Frames was Fill the Frame.  If you would like to see all of the images submitted for this challenge, you can view them here.  There were 2,667 images submitted for this challenge, so you might want to grab a cup of coffee before you get started.

I found the subject matter for this week’s challenge close

to home.  The first subject I found on my kitchen counter.  The other two subjects I found in my mother’s basement.

Since working with artificial light is a goal of mine while completing this project, I used my flash for two of my three images.

What in the World?
What in the World?

My first image took me back in time to when I was a child looking at a children’s magazine that I received.  There was a section, each issue, that showed the close ups of things and challenged the reader to identify the object.  Can you easily identify this?

While creating the image, I used my flash to provide side lighting which gave greater dimension to the shapes.

My mother’s basement has always been a treasure trove of wonders.  I found my second subject stacked on one of her workbenches.

Colors and Patterns
Colors and Patterns

These colors, patterns, and textures all came from the covers of Reader’s Digest books that my mother collected through the years.  Once I stacked the covers, I photographed them at a diagonal to give the image more energy.

The image I ended up submitting to 52 Frames for the challenge was an image of stacked frames I found hanging on nails on the walls of the basement.

I used flash for this image.  The use of flash gave more depth to the image than one without use of flash.

What will you fill your frames with this week?
