“A drawing is simply a line going for a walk.”
-Paul Klee
My challenge for week two of the year was leading lines.
In the last days of my holiday break, I went to Raleigh to see the Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera exhibit at the North Carolina Museum of Art. After viewing an exhibit, I always enjoy visiting the museum store. This is something my mother and I have always enjoyed.
While in the museum store, I noticed a large book of the works of Diego Rivera. I ended up ordering this book, Diego Rivera. The Complete Murals, after returning home. It was a book published by Taschen. I always enjoy their high quality books.
I like to spend my early mornings looking at art or photography books. One morning this week, one of Diego Rivera’s murals inspired me to create a composite using leading lines.
I created this composite using two images I captured while in France during the summer of 2018, a cloud image from somewhere in the Carolinas, and one of my sunflower images.
I enjoyed creating the composite, but it really wouldn’t work for my challenge from 52Frames, since that is more of a straight photography group.
Before Christmas, I purchased a wreath from Amazon. I used this wreath to create portraits of my first grade students as my gift to them and their parents. I knew I wanted to try to take a picture of my dog, Maui, using the wreath, too, but time during the holiday break got away from me.
I purchased red ribbon (discounted after the holidays) from the craft store, attached it to the wreath and to a hoola hoop, got the help of my husband, Randy, and created this image. Since one of my goals for 2020 is to learn how to use artificial lighting, I did use my flash for this image. I bounced the flash off of the white ceiling in my sunroom.
I can already see that creating 52 images based upon these challenges will help me grow as a photographer. I am looking forward to the next challenge.
