The Christmas Markets

“I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.”
― Charles Dickens

One of the highlights of our recent river cruise of the Danube River, was stopping and visiting the Christmas markets in Austria and Germany.  We visited the Christmas markets at the Schönbrun Palace in Vienna.  We also explored the Christmas markets in Passau, Regensburg, and Nuremberg, Germany.

The markets were festive places where visitors could buy gifts, delicious foods, and beverages.

Here are some of the pictures I took to try to capture the magic of the Christmas markets we visited.

We were deeply saddened to learn of the horrific act that took place at a Christmas market in  Magdeburg, Germany, after our return home.  The act took lives, caused injuries, and took away a feeling of safety in a situation that is expected to bring about joy.  Our prayers are with all who were touched by this act.

I am grateful that we could experience the beauty of the Christmas markets in Vienna, Passau, Regensburg, and Nuremberg.

  • I am in Nuremberg now, visiting my nephew. We were at the Christmas markets too and it gave me even more empathy for those people injured. These markets are packed shoulder to shoulder with happy people. I was grateful that they did not close the markets early. We were at the last day.. there were no issues, just people celebrating..
My heart goes out to all who were affected💕
