“To travel across Spain and finally to reach Barcelona is like drinking a respectable red wine and finishing up with a bottle of champagne.”
―
Photography has introduced me to people I would have never met, taken me to places I would have never experienced, and led me to adventures I would never have attempted. This was certainly the case earlier this month when my camera took me to Barcelona, Spain.
Thirty-five of my photographs were exhibited at FotoNostrum Mediterranean House of Photography, located in Barcelona, Spain, in the 3rd Barcelona Foto Biennale and 7th Biennial of Fine Art & Documentary Photography Exhibition. The exhibit featured 358 artists from 47 countries. My exhibited photographs were award winners and honorable mentions in the 17th and 18th Julia Margaret Cameron Awards.
I was able to participate in special events scheduled over two days for the opening of the exhibit.
On October 13, Randy and I attended the artist reception and private view at FotoNostrum. It was incredible getting a chance to view the exhibit and see the works of so many talented photographers from around the world.
On the morning of October 14, three photographers shared their book projects with the group.
Following the book presentations, there was more time to explore the exhibited works. I thoroughly enjoyed approaching exhibited photographers and asking them to discuss their work with me. I had amazing conversations with Nancy Scherl, Melanie Schoniger, Allen Hirsch, Heather Markham, Amelie Louys, Elizabeth Sanjuan, and many others regarding their work and creative processes. I found this so fascinating and enjoyable. I wish I had time to talk to all of the photographers.
That evening, we enjoyed a festive artists’ dinner at the Hotel Catalonia Plaza Catalunya. Included in the evening was a presentation by Kiran Ridley, a British photojournalist based in Paris.
I am so thankful to the jurors: Laura Ann Noble (UK, Founder and Director of LA Noble Gallery in London, Artist, Writer, Lecturer, Curator and Photo Reviewer)
Jennie Rickets (Ireland, Founder of the online gallery jennyrickets.com, Lecturer, Curator, Photo Reviewer) and past winners of the Julia Margaret Cameron Award who served as jurors, Julio Hirsch-Hardy, Director of the WPGA and FotoNostrum Gallery, and all at FotoNostrum who made this spectacular exhibition and events possible.
I was thrilled to share this honor with a “local” friend and fellow photographer, Leanne Trivette Stent, who was unable to attend the events due to her photography teaching commitments here in the states.
There is absolutely no question that my life completely changed the moment I began to learn how to use my camera creatively.
There aren’t adequate words to express my appreciation for my husband, Randy, who supports me unconditionally as I follow my creative path.
Looking forward to our next adventure!
