“When young photographers ask me what they should do, I always tell them to stay close to home.”
-Annie Leibovitz
Since life’s events have caused me to stay closer to home for the past two and a half years, I have found myself looking for subjects to photograph nearby. What I have found is the more I look, the more I see.
Although many are by now experiencing Zoom fatigue, Zoom has opened such a rich world of learning for me. Although I have not been able to physically attend workshops, the Zoom platform has allowed me to take workshops and learn from instructors I might never have had the opportunity to learn from otherwise.
Nobechi Creative offers incredible learning opportunities for online learning. My experiences with Nobechi Creative have been amazing and I can wholeheartedly recommend workshops offered by them. My hope is to attend an in-person workshop with Nobechi Creative when life’s circumstances make that a possibility.
Recently I finished taking Arthur Meyerson‘s Color of Light workshop through Nobechi Creative. It was a week full of interesting lessons, assignments that could be completed close to home, and thoughtful critique and discussion of images submitted by participants. This workshop and others I have been able to experience using the Zoom platform have given me the opportunity to analyze my photography and add new tools to my photographic toolbox.
Here are images I created recently close to home during and after taking Arthur’s class.
Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of sharing my newly created presentation, Close to Home, to the Midlands Region of Carolinas’ Nature Photographers Association. Please feel free to contact me if your group would be interested in this presentation.
I look forward to exploring new, exotic places with my camera in the future. Until then, I am having a wonderful time seeing the many exciting things that are found close to my home.
