“Time flows away like the water in the river. ”
―
Monday I had the opportunity to spend a morning at the zoo to work on my current personal project, Caged. When going to the zoo, I always sign up for the first time available so I can beat the crowds and leave before many people begin arriving for the day. The result of my early arrival Monday led to not many animals being out and about. Since there wasn’t much going on with the animals first thing,
I decided to head over to the gardens to see if there was anything that would capture my interest there.
As I walked over the bridge that separates the animal portion of the zoo from the botanical gardens, I was drawn to the river below. Monday was a mostly cloudy, windy day. I became mesmerized by the changes in the water caused by the wind and occasional appearance of the sun. I ended up standing on the bridge photographing the water for about two hours.
I came away from this visit to the zoo with hundreds of amazing abstract portraits of water. Here are some of my favorites.
The next time you find yourself at river’s edge, I encourage you to observe the art created by wind, water, and light.

Mary, your projects are always inspiring as are your photos.
Thank you, so much, Dan! I hope you have a great weekend!
Absolutely gorgeous water abstracts. Inspiring message. Good lesson in adapting to the circumstances. I’ve had to do that a lot during the trip I’m on, since most of the things I came to see were inaccessible due to snow.
Thank you, Chris! I have seen some amazing images from your trip! It looks like you were able to adapt extremely well!
WOW! very awesome abstracts… I love watching the water, too. It is mesmerizing.
Thanks, so much, Lynn!
