“Learning to distance yourself from all the negativity is one of the greatest lessons to achieve inner peace.”
―
Spending time in the natural world has always given me a sense of peace. The sounds, smells, and sights of the natural world
can transport me from any worries I have at the time. Now, more than ever, I find comfort in nature.
Recently, thanks to my husband, Randy, and my brother, Paul, I was able to take a trip to the Charleston area. It is one of my favorite places on the planet. While there, Randy and I visited Botany Bay Plantation Heritage Preserve and Wildlife Management Area, located on Edisto Island, SC.
I could spend a lifetime photographing at Botany Bay. It is truly a visual wonderland!
Randy and I arrived in time to photograph sunrise on the beach. Although there was not much color in the sunrise, there were wonderful clouds which made things interesting.
The number and variety of shells on the beach are incredible. The shells are protected. Although they cannot be taken from the beach, visitors to Botany Bay arrange shells throughout the island on the trees.
On the way out of Botany Bay, I stopped to photograph the tree lined drive. I decided to overexpose the scene in order to create what I was seeing and feeling as I left. I left the Botany Bay area feeling lighter, the weights of the world lifted for the time being.
As my world gets “smaller” I will continue to find peace in nature. It is as close as a step out of my back door.
I hope you will also seek peace in the natural world.

Thank you Mary for some peaceful thoughts when all around me is near hysterical over coronovirus even though there isn’t even one case in the town.
You are very welcome. We all need peace through this. There will be so much to celebrate when this is past us!
Wonderful images Mary. Thanks for sharing!
Many thanks, David!
Botany Bay is gorgeous, I was there last year and hated to go at the end of the day. We were heading back there this Spring but canceled our Edisto reservations yesterday. It made me sad but seeing your images is a good consolation prize.
Thank you, so much, for your kind words!
The trees in Cluster of Trees and Sun look as though they are dancing in celebration of a new day! Beautiful. Lovely Rays of Hope and great detail in Lines & Curves. Glad you enjoyed your stay.
Thanks, so much, Lorraine! Stay well!
