“All journeys have secret destinations of which the traveler is unaware.”

One of the most fascinating things about my trip to Jerusalem was my time spent in the Old City.
There are four quarters in the old city: the Armenian Quarter, the Christian Quarter, the Jewish Quarter, and the Muslim Quarter.
While in the Old City, we enjoyed shopping in the markets.
The Old City, first built in 1538, is home to holy sites.
The Jewish holy sites within the Old City are the Temple Mount and the Western Wall. The western wall is a limestone wall that is what remains of the Jewish Temple.
The Church of Holy Sepulchre is also in the Old City. Visitors tour the church to see the site where tradition says Jesus was crucified and his empty tomb.
The Muslim holy sites in the Old City include the Dome of the Rock, an Islamic Shrine, and al-Aqsa Mosque, which is the third holiest site in Islam.
One evening, my lifelong friend, Larry, and I went to Night Spectacular, an incredible light show shown on the walls of The Tower of David. The light show told the story of Jerusalem.
Night Spectacular was informative and an auditory and visual delight.
My time in the Old City was an indescribable experience of history and religion. It will forever remain a part of me.
Towards the end of my stay with my friend, Larry, we took a trip to Jordan. Larry’s beautiful niece, Rebecca, joined us for this part of the trip.
On our way to Jordan, we stopped to spend some time at the Dead Sea. The Dead Sea is a salt lake bordered by both Israel and Jordon.
I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to experience these holy sites, witness people filled with the spirit of their religion, and visit places I have read about in the Bible all of my life.
I hope you will check back on my blog for our next stop, Jordan.
