Wonderful Wisteria

“In pale moonlight / the wisteria’s scent / comes from far away.”
― Yosa Buson

It truly feels like spring to me when I see the wisteria flowers dangling from vines.

Since a very young age, I have been drawn to the color purple.  There was a year or two, when I was in high school, that I wore purple clothing each day to school.  I had purple shirts, shoes, pantsuits, belts, purses, etc.

Fortunately, I grew out of that phase, but the color still speaks to me.

Since things bloom in Charleston, SC, before they bloom where I live, my first spring encounter with wisteria was in Charleston.

Wisteria at Magnolia

I not only found wisteria putting on a display in Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, but also along the streets of downtown Charleston.

Woman and Wisteria

Once I got home, it wasn’t long before the wisteria began blooming near my home.

Luckily, I remembered a spectacular display of wisteria that can be found blooming behind the public library in Rock Hill, SC.

Hanging Around
A Place to Rest

I will look forward to seeing and photographing wisteria again next spring.
