Outer Banks (OBX), North Carolina

There is a treasure awaiting to be explored off the coast of North Carolina.  The Outer Banks are made up of a stretch of barrier islands and peninsulas that are approximately 130 miles long.  Different towns, with unique character, can be discovered as you explore the Outer Banks.

This summer, I was thrilled to be able to spend

a week exploring many areas of the Outer Banks.  This was my third visit to the Outer Banks.  I went to the Outer Banks this time to attend a workshop with wonderful instructors and friends, Athena Carey, Alistair Nicol, and Tommy White of Mountains to Sea Workshops.   I had a tremendous time photographing before and during the workshop.

The Outer Banks has so much to offer visitors to the area.  When I think of the Outer Banks, I often think of the lighthouses that can be found there.  You can read about the different types of lighthouses and their locations on the Outer Banks Lighthouse Society’s Page.  During my stay, I was able to visit four of the lighthouses.

Many visiting the Outer Banks spend a great deal of time enjoying the beaches there.

There are other ways to explore the Outer Banks.  Mopeds, bicycles, and four wheel drive vehicles are for rent for  your visit.

One of the reasons people rent four wheel drive vehicles is to see the horses that can be found on and near the beach.

There many educational activities that families can participate in while visiting the Outer Banks.  If it is too hot outside, it might be a great chance to visit the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island.

Another wonderful educational opportunity is to learn about the Wright Brothers’ first flight at the Wright Brothers National Memorial.

Of course, my favorite activity to participate in while in the Outer Banks is Photographing.
