“Every time I see an adult on a bicycle, I no longer despair for the future of the human race.”
― H.G. Wells
I have visited Tarpon Springs many times while visiting friends and relatives in Florida. I discovered something new on my most recent visit to Tarpon Springs.
As a photographer, I am always looking for something that will catch my eye to photograph. It did not take long to find the thing that made me get my gear out of my bag.
I saw the first
decorated bicycle almost as soon as I got out of the car. While my sister-in-law, Janet, looked in one of the stores, I photographed the bicycle. As we made our way through the city, we started to see decorated bicycles throughout. The one used as the featured image for this post was located on the dock where we boarded the boat to see sponge diving.
If you missed my initial post about Tarpon Springs, you can read it here.
While on the sponge diving boat cruise, our guide pointed out a houseboat and told us that this was the home of the artist who created the bicycle art found on the streets of Tarpon Springs.
After the sponge diving boat cruise, I made my way through the city photographing the bicycles.
I made sure to not only photograph the whole bicycles, but also to photograph the details from the bicycles.
As I was photographing, I noticed a man riding a decorated bicycle. I knew this had to be the bicycle artist.
The bicycle artist, Warren Gregory, began placing his art on the streets of Tarpon Springs in the spring of 2015. Initially, the appearance of the bicycles was a mystery.
It was such a pleasure talking to Warren. He says he just does it because he enjoys doing it. He was inspired from his time in Amsterdam.
I know that the decorated bicycles certainly added to my enjoyment of my most recent visit to Tarpon Springs. If you get a chance, enjoy Warren Gregory’s art on the Streets of Tarpon Springs!
