Beach Reflections

Whenever I get the opportunity to be near the water, I am always on the lookout for beautiful reflections.  This past weekend, while visiting Garden City Beach, I was sure to pay attention to reflections on the water.  The best time I have found for finding beautiful reflections on water are the times shortly after the sun rises and shortly before the sun sets.  The quality of the light helps to produce beautiful reflections at those times of day.

The featured image for this blog post was created at

the Marsh Walk in Murrells Inlet.  My eye was drawn to these colorful kayaks.  During processing, I did use Topaz Impression to create the finished image.

There was a pool just below our room at the condo where we were staying.  I spent a great deal of time out on the porch enjoying the ocean view.  I couldn’t help but notice the sunlight as it danced across the pool water when looking down on the scene.

One evening, when my husband and I went out to dinner at a restaurant overlooking the water, I was distracted by the beautiful reflections that were being cast by the boats in the marina there.  I excused myself for a few minutes in order to capture those reflections.

Each day I was at the beach, I was up and ready to capture whatever sunrise was willing to provide.  This shot was taken at the pier just after sunrise.  I love capturing the reflected golden light from the sun on the sand and on the water just after sunrise.

By far, I was most delighted to see that the moon was rising so beautifully just out behind my room.  From the porch where I had enjoyed watching the daily activities at the beach, I had a front row seat for the spectacular reflected light as the moon rose over the water.

The next time you find yourself at the beach, be sure to look for all of the wonderful opportunities to photograph reflections.
