Ever since I have been photographing seriously, I have been fascinated with photographing feathers. While I do not photograph entire birds very often and birds in flight even less, I love the close up shots of the intricate details of birds’ feathers.
One of my all time favorite images that I have captured is
the one I use as a banner on my website and on my social media pages. It is the colorful feathers of a rooster. Very few of my images have names, but the name of this image is Rooster’s Rainbow. It will always be one of my favorites.
This past weekend, while at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, I made sure to focus on the feathers of the birds. My first subject was the peacock. The feathers of the male peacock are so vivid and fascinating.
I just love the patterns and colors. The last one reminded me of a mermaid’s tail.
After photographing the peacocks, I moved on to the turkeys. The turkeys were not getting nearly the attention that the peacocks were enjoying. However, when you take a close look, you will find that they are decorated beautifully, as well.
The next time you have the opportunity to photograph birds, be sure to take a close look at their wonderful, colorful feathers.
